I was nearing the end of Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes as the week began, and good thing because being an older XBLA title it is very stingy on the achievements. I had thought this would mean I’d have to maybe play another game on-and-off alongside this one to keep my streak going, but that didn’t end up being necessary. While I had to grab an achievement in a new game on Tuesday due to forgetfulness (more on that in a sec) most of the week was spent slowly pushing my way through the game’s story mode. And there was still a lot to go, as I had half of the third campaign and the final two campaigns left! The nice thing is that the game’s difficulty never really increased, and I was able to skate through the whole thing will little in the way of challenge. As long as you keep your units leveled up and strategize enough you can get this completion. That final campaign, though! It is easily the shortest, and quite straightforward, but you’re running up a tower and just seems never-ending. Even worse, the final army you get to use is very weak and slow, so it’s just all around a plodding and boring end to this game. I had some multiplayer still to do, so that was my final task to check this one off. I managed to talk Neomaster into jumping in and helping me get the 4-player achievement, with my filling in the other three spots. Then I needed to level up to 10, but this was made very quick when I ran into a major try-hard randomly who was a WILDLY HIGH level and, even though I lost, I went up to over level 8 in that one match! Didn’t take long and I was done!

Lord Bloodcrown is ready to get handsy.

So, I’m still continuing my streak from 2012, hitting over 4080 days this past week. On day 4085 (aka Tuesday of this week) I was invited out to a late-night basement metal show an hour-and-a-half away. About 20 minutes into this drive I realized… I forgot to get an achievement. FRICK! But, hey, modern technology and all so I quickly pulled over and found the easiest game I could start on Game Pass using the cloud: A Little to the Left. I was kind of excited to play this one after seeing some gameplay on YouTube, so I’m not super torn up about “having” to start this. There’s an achievement for completing a “daily tidy” for 30 consecutive days, so while I’m not really gonna play through this yet as I have other games to work on (*Maquette glares in incomplete*) I’ll still be trying to pop in daily.

Now for some cleanup. First on the docket was the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft. I had been ignoring it for a while, but one of the February 2024 Targets over on TA would get knocked out if I got a few of the updates from past years cleaned up. Jumped into an achievement server and worked through a number of them late Thursday evening. Didn’t knock them all out, but that wasn’t really the goal so I’m just happy to get more of this done. Plus, I’m sure more being added is right around the corner.

Speaking of updates, Vampire Survivors got a free title update this week that added new stuff and more achievements, though they’re the same they usually are: unlock a new weapon, level it up to 7, evolve it, and survive the new stage for a length of time. It was all pretty easy! The cool thing was I did some of it at work on my breaks, as it appears 5G has finally come to downtown Waterloo! If I can start playing my games over the Cloud at work I can start getting some smaller games done, though maybe more for grinding since I like streaming my game on Twitch as I complete them. At least I have the option! But, anyway, this game is still silly fun and it’s done again.

Yup, still utter madness at a clip that the bitrate can’t keep up with. Just now in SPACE!

The new list of games leaving the Game Pass library was released over the weekend and a title stuck out to me: Hardspace: Shipbreaker. I’d actually been planning to play this since it was first on PC Game Pass, before a console version was also added. It just seemed like a fairly chill/easy completion but also a neat concept for a game: you play as a scrapyard worker, but in space and you’re salvaging spaceships! There’s also a heavy “corporations suck” theme I think we can all get behind in this day and age, but the gameplay itself is just so simple and addicting. It’s been a bit since I played a game that I just couldn’t wait to get back to, but this is definitely one of those. There’s not a whole lot to it: you have a ship enter the bay, and you methodically take it apart piece by piece. It’s extremely simple at first, but soon you’re having to work around electrical systems and atomic reactors and the like. It’s all still the same goal, though. I heard there are assists and such to make the completion shorter and easier, but I am not bothering. I’d rather play this one for realz! There’s also only a single pair of missable achievements pertaining to an Act III mission, so I can just play and relax. I made it through Act I already, so I’m making good time!
